Tumpeng Rice for Seven Months Pregnant Celebration, Birthday and House Warming

On 21-Apr-2012 we made a Tumpeng Rice for one of our customer who celebrates three sweet occasions in the family: the wife's Seven Months Pregnant and Birthday, and the family's House Blessing.

For Seven Months Pregnant celebration, normally the Tumpeng is White Rice: one big Tumpeng, surrounded with 6 more small Tumpengs. But since it was combined with other occasions, and just as a symbol, in order to reflect their thanksgiving to God, Yellow Rice had been chosen here. To substitute the 6 small Tumpengs, we put six white cucumber flowers.

The Tumpeng comes with yummy five dishes: vegetables (lalap timun dan selada), fried chicken, perkedel, tahu bacem and telur balado. Decorated with some carrot Tulip Flowers and lettuce. We added a basket of black seedless grapes here, to make a beautiful color contrast...and of course to make the Tumpeng become more Yummyyy and cute.. :)

Thanks for the order Tini & husband..
We wish you Happy Birthday, Happy House Warming and Happy "Nujuh Bulan" - may God bless you and the baby always.

Feedback from Tini that we received in the evening: The food all were nice. And for sure she will recommend MarFel's Kitchen to all of her friends.. :) -- Thanks Tini for being a super duper kind and cooperative customer, too..! :)

Tulip Flowers Made from Carrot

I tried once to make tulip flowers from carrot.. But the result was not too nice like what I'd been expected. Since then I was too lazy to retry it. I was more interesting to use white radish for carving.

Until I found a nice pictures of carrot tulip flowers bouquet in a website, and thought why not retry it.

When there was a chance to make Tumpeng Rice, I took a carrot and tried my luck again.. :))
The result was not bad.. :) And it was indeed beautiful.. wasn't it? :) Like it like it ..

About how to make it.. is the same like the step in this post.

As background, spring onion is always the best choice. I noticed that we should use the medium/ big size spring onion..as it's firm enough to stand. And if the leaf is too long, you could trim it using scissors..and the form will be more adorable.

I arranged the spring onion and the tulip flowers in a small bamboo basket (put styrofoam at the base). And used a plastic ribbon (bought it during Chinese New Year on Feb this year :)) to fill up the empty space (tied it up onto the handle).

I put slices of cucumber and mini tomato in this basket (left picture), as decoration of the Tumpeng.

On the right picture, it were candies in the basket. You too for sure can make it! :)

Birthday Tumpeng (Singapore Nasi Lemak)

Singapore Nasi Lemak is pretty similar with Indonesian Nasi Uduk. The different is the "Sambal".
In Indonesia we don't serve the sambal separately, but it's mixed with tempe, fried peanut and anchovies.

However the Singapore Nasi Lemak and Indonesian Nasi Uduk have its unique taste, and both are delicious.

On 8th of April 2012, we made a Tumpeng, i.e.: Singapore Nasi Lemak (plus sambal egg/ telur balado) served and decorated just like Indonesian Nasi Tumpeng, for a birthday occasion :)

The dishes were fried chicken, fried peanut and anchovies, sambal belacan and Indonesian Telur Balado (sambal eggs). Decorated with carrot flowers, princess cake topper :)
