My First Cake Decorating Course, in Nov - Dec 2011

I'm very new in "Cake Decorating" world.
That's why I decided to sign up for a cake decorating class at the Bake It YourSelf.

"Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course 1" was the course name, and it's provided into four sessions, conducted on Saturday afternoon (2.5 hours for each of the session), at a bakery shop house (Bake it Your Self) in 182 Bukit Timah Road, Singapore. The course fee is $270 (student starter kit and book are inclusive). And the instructor's name was: Katerine Kok.

I enjoyed the class.. although felt quite tough as we should accomplished some home works which is so challenging for a starter student like us, i.e.: to bring a cake covered with butter cream as the based cake for the decorating hands on in the class. I can tell you that covering the cake is not an easy job at all. The way you hold the spatula, they way you smooth up the surface, to avoid the bread crumbs come out, haizzz.. ^^

The other thing that we need to prepare was butter cream with appropriate consistencies: stiff, medium or thin. With regards butter cream, Teacher Katerine mentioned that try to use icing sugar without corn starch, meanwhile icing sugars in the market all are with corn starch. And what I did was: came back to the B-I-Y shop at Bukit Timah Road (from my office in Ang Mo Kio, during lunch time).. just to buy a pax of icing sugar..^^ as I wanted to have a perfect cake/ icing for my final project decorated cake.

But overall I can say that I really enjoyed the course and glad with the fruits that I got from the class.
I know about cake decorating basic now.. and become more confident as a baker. :)

My thanks to all who had supported me during this struggling time: my baking guru and adviser Mbak Deby Da silva, my dear husband David Gani, my pretty daughter Marielle Aurelia Gani, my handsome son Nicholas Rafael Gani and my home assistant Sawen. With the great supports from ya.. I could accomplished the projects (hufff) and received my first cake decorating certificate: The Wilton Basic Decorating Cake - Course 1 Certificate.. Hihihihi..

Chicken Satay ordered by a friend in Singapore

Our Chicken Satay is so delicious.
It's Indonesian Style Chicken Satay (known as Sate Madura in Indonesia).
When you have a bbq event, you could order the raw marinated satay from us.
We will provide it with the bbq sauce and the serving peanut sauce or sweet soy sauce.

You will not regret it.

Even we got feedback from our Singapore and India friends that the satay was so delicious, and they wonder how we could make such delicious taste. The answer is it's inherited treasure from our Indonesian ancestors..:) They left so rich and tasteful foods to us.. :)

We got an order by one of our friend in Singapore (Oki and Yuli). Thanks Oki and Yuli for the order.

Macaroni Casserole is a baked macaroni dish. It's a dish of cooked macaroni and a mixture of egg and milk with additional ingredients like meats, vegetables or fish. It is commonly made with cheese and/or breadcrumbs sprinkled on top. It is usually eaten with chili sauce or mayonnaise.

In Indonesia Macaroni Casserole is known as Macaroni Schotel. This dish introduced by Dutch during the occupation in Indonesia. Therefore, 'Schotel' or 'schaal' (meaning 'dish') borrowed from Dutch language, referring to the container used to make this food. Indonesian version is usually made with cheese and meat (smoked beef is widely used), alternatively sausage or tuna. Sometimes they add potato, or alternatively, tofu to give more Asian flavor.

Our special Macaroni Schotel at above and below pictures, was made with beef corned, minced beef and fresh cream, sprinkled with Cheddar Cheese and topped with Mozarella Cheese. It was made for a housewarming party on 3rd Dec 2011. Happy House Blessing..! :)

Indonesian Layer Cake (Kueh Lapis)

Kue Lapis (AKA "Kueh Lapis" in Singapore) is a non ordinary cake. It's very unique and special, known as "thousand of layers cake".
It is a very rich cake with very high contents of eggs and butter.

Kue Lapis has auspicious meaning for the Chinese Lunar New Year. The layers structure of Kue Lapis symbolizes the strength and power given to you to achieve greater height in business and career.

Quoted from Asian Cuisine website: "When you chomp into a slice of kueh lapis during the Lunar New Year season, pause to consider that you're making a wish for an ever upward move in the new year. Upward in wealth, upward in happiness, upward in your career."

Making Kue Lapis is a very tedious job. The baking process requires time and patience since every layer is baked one at a time. However, "Home Made Kue Lapis" is one of our special menu, which is patiently and specially baked just for you.
